I attended your course then fell ill then hit the cycle of defeat and frustration and gave up. I wanted you to know I did listen to what you said when I first signed up. I listened to you in the class room and to the other people who were in a similar situation to me. I adjusted my medication and gave myself the time to adapt again learning how to manage my symptoms. I walked a lot. When I felt ready I researched companies and stumbled upon virgin money. I decided to be totally honest about my health and past employment struggles. Throughout the recruitment process all their staff were kind, encouraging and supportive but most importantly they didn’t once shudder at the word cancer. I got the job. I wanted you to know your words had impact and value. I wanted to thank you and bless your heart for all the good you do through your commitment to vulnerable people. Thank you Julie
When I found out about Kelly running a course on employability, I immediately contacted and met with her. I was not employed following cancer and I thought it was a perfect timing to go back and do something useful again. One of the reasons, I went on a course was total lack of confidence, confidence lost due to an illness and actually not knowing what exactly I want to do. The course was not the usual teaching us how to write CV and behave during an interview. It was a combination of dealing with anxiety which many people who affected by serious illnesses have, learning skills to become employed, learn being confident and find hidden strength directing finding the right job. It helped me to remove many mental blocks and see how many valuable skills I have. It was also very inspiring to meet many people Kelly invited to talk to us. People just like us went through rough patches in life, redundancies, illnesses, loss of businesses. It lifted my spirit listening their stories how they managed to rebuild their lives, become successful and many setting up great businesses. By the end of the course, I knew direction to take. I have lots of skills and diverse experience. I met with few companies investigating how people would benefit from my misfortune immediately after the course. I am starting a paid contract with a local charity, working with people with mental health issues, teaching them feltmaking. Craft, especially working with wool helped me to overcome many mental health issues and I would love to share my experience with others. The long term plan is hopefully to set up a social enterprise working in creative wellbeing. The immediate plan is to use my creativity and develop a brand while teaching my craft other people sharing benefits of craft with them. It took me many years to look what to do after I stopped working for a large corporation due to a cancer and health problems connected and without going to this course it would take me longer.
After today, I found that I know what websites to go on to find jobs.

I found learning about the skills I knew I had but did not know how to use them useful, also about job search information and how to answer interview questions better.

Last night I redone my CV using the tips we covered this week. Posted my shorter updated CV on some jobsites, today I got an email from a company (probably a recruitment company) asking if I am interested in applying for a job, the post is business development manager for a health care company. With my old CV the only people who approached me were for care assistant jobs.

Got a lot of help and advice from Kelly with a sensitive situation I was struggling with within my business. A unique, helpful and fantastic service.

Vicky Arnott – Newcastle
Love the work that Kelly does and it makes a huge difference to the lives of those she works with
When I was at a turning point in my career/life I turned to Kelly. Rather than offering me advice (as so many people wanted to do) she simply asked the right questions and helped me to find out the answers myself. Thanks Kelly! I would highly recommend your services to anyone at a turning point in their lives or who is struggling with direction.
Whilst working as a Community Development officer in North Tyneside Borough, I had the fortune to collaborate with Kelly. She was working for Age Uk with initiatives to turn older people’s lives from disengagement to purposeful direction. I was very assured of Kelly’s supportive and proactive engagement with vulnerable clients. Her approach contributed to the aims of our Partnership to encourage Education Training and Employment for disengaged or marginalised citizens of North Tyneside. Kelly became the Chair of the North Shields Partnership and practically enabled actions to address unemployment and skills deficits. It is great to work together with professionals who understand the Aim of the work, but it is much more advantageous to have the addition of insight into how sensitive people are properly supported. Kelly provided this insight and therefore enabled better help from Agencies through the course of our true partnership works.
Kelly is passionate and committed to supporting and encouraging others. She works tirelessly and with great care and dedication. Kelly has a great love of people that shines through in all she does, ensuring that she stands out in her role and enjoys very positive outcomes for those she supports. She has a wealth of knowledge and always ready and eager to signpost, direct and help others in any way she can.
I had the pleasure of experiencing Reiki with Kelly, I would recommend this to anyone, Very relaxing . professionally carried out, In a comfortable environment , Thanks Kelly
I contacted Kelly as we were looking for specific support for an employee going through a redundancy process. Kelly made contact with the employee immediately and provided valuable support in updating her CV. I would recommend her services.
I contacted Kelly after having been employed in the same organisation for nearly ten years. I was ready to move on but after being out of the jobs market for so long I was very unsure of how to proceed or even where to start.
Kelly was recommended to me via a work colleague so I got in touch with her and we arranged a meeting. She was great at helping me to identify my targets and goals as well as putting together a new CV. She provided valuable ongoing support when I was applying for jobs and was always available if I had any questions.
I am currently in the process of starting a new role and I do not believe that I would have found something so quickly without Kelly’s assistance. I am very grateful and would wholeheartedly recommend her service towards anyone who is on the jobs market and feels that they may need some support or guidance.
I attended a course at South Tyneside CVS and it was an enjoyable experience for me, without added pressure, whilst seeking employment. I’ve been an agency worker for 7yrs after redundancy and finding a permanent contract is challenging, but I’ve done it! The sessions included a diverse group of people, all from very different backgrounds but all with the same goals… to have a belonging and purpose in suitable employment. It was interesting to meet other individuals in an unpleasant predicament, that shared all similar values and aspirations. The workshops that Kelly facilitates are a person-centered approach, therefore people can relate more, as it’s not the usual “generic tickbox”
Morning Kelly – I just wanted to say a huge thank you for ‘pointing me’ in the right direction when
I was rather lost! I’m really enjoying working at VODA and I never expected things to happen so quickly – it’s been like a whirlwind! Thank you so much again for all of your help and I hope that you’re keeping well and that business is good. I’ve already mentioned to Ian that I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for anything for you – you’re such a lovely lady! Thank you again! X
After spending 3 years as a volunteer doing reception work and trying to find a job in admin/reception I came to a standstill. Sending my CV off to lots of companies and not getting any replies I decided to join the ‘You First’ course with Cygnet to see where I was going wrong and to see if my CV could be improved. Not only did I get help with my CV, I learned a whole lot of other stuff about myself and my self worth. Because of this course I learned an entire set of other skills I didn’t realise I had and have decided on a different career path altogether. Whether you are just starting off trying to build confidence, wanting to get into volunteering, wanting to get into part time or full time work or wanting a whole new career change, this is the course to be on and I would highly recommend it to anyone. This course is not like other courses I have been to where they are more about ticking boxes, this course is more focussed on individual needs and the way you learn is such good fun. You get to play games without even realising you’re learning, it’s not until afterwards when you’re discussing as a group about what you have just done whilst playing the game that you do realise. Such a lovely group of people I was with and I owe a massive thank you to the facilitator Kelly Oliver Dougall for making me feel more positive about myself and showing me I am worth so much more.
I just thought I’d let you I had a successful interview today. Although I only applied for 3 jobs it resulted in 3 interviews. The first failed, second successful, and we will see what the third brings.
I have accepted the role although only part time. I may be able to do my own small business at the same time.
Thanks for the support! There are so many people doing counselling and so many people doing the careers, but you have a unique way of bringing the two together into a winning formula!
Thank you so much for this help with my CV. As I was updating it I became aware of so many answers I could give at my next interview!
It has helped me enormously and given me a lot of new found confidence. I didn’t realise I could cover so many skills, I actually ran out of space on the form.
A few weeks later……
I have been offered a job! Thank you so much!
I got the job! Thank you so much for all your help and encouragement! I am so relieved and excited too. It’s my last day today, I have the exit interview this afternoon then that’s it. So pleased that I have been offered a job on the day I am being made redundant.
I would highly recommend Kelly as a “sounding board” to anyone, who was like myself, struggling to make career decisions. Kelly helped me clarify my own thoughts, develop my own ideas, as well as given me some others to consider. I felt comfortable to open up to her, safe in the knowledge that she offers a professional, confidential service. Credit to her, I now have a plan. Thanks Kelly.
I’m so pleased I found Cygnet – I hadn’t applied for a job in over 10 years and I was so apprehensive. Kelly gave me the reassurance and help I needed and now I have been offered the job I wanted. I’m now planning my future!
